Afrobeats Largely Driven by Lagos, Yoruba Culture – Omah Lay
Nigerian singer Omah Lay has said that Afrobeats music is largely rooted in the culture and lifestyle of Lagos and the Yoruba people.
According to a reports, the artiste made the remark during a recent interview while discussing the evolution and global success of the Afrobeats genre.
Omah Lay noted that much of the sound, rhythm and cultural expression associated with Afrobeats originates from Lagos, which he described as the hub of Nigeria’s music industry.
He explained that the influence of Yoruba culture, language and lifestyle has significantly shaped the genre’s identity and global appeal.
However, the singer also acknowledged that Afrobeats continues to evolve as artists from different parts of Nigeria and across Africa contribute new sounds and styles.
Afrobeats has grown into one of the most popular music genres globally, with Nigerian artists gaining widespread recognition and topping international music charts.
The genre’s expansion has also helped position Nigeria as a major cultural exporter in the global music industry.
