Hard Times in Akwa Ibom as Fuel Price Surge, Lingering Blackout Frustrate Residents

Residents of Akwa Ibom State are expressing growing frustration as a sharp rise in fuel prices and prolonged electricity outages continue to worsen living conditions across the state.

Many residents said the combined impact of expensive petrol and persistent power outages has significantly increased the cost of living and disrupted daily economic activities.

Motorists and commercial transport operators lamented that the rising price of petrol has forced them to increase fares, placing additional pressure on commuters and small businesses.

At the same time, households and business owners are grappling with extended blackouts, forcing many to rely heavily on petrol-powered generators to keep their homes and businesses running.

Small-scale entrepreneurs in sectors such as food processing, hairdressing and retail said the situation has severely affected their productivity and profit margins.

Energy analysts note that the dual challenge of high fuel costs and unstable electricity supply remains a major economic burden for residents in many parts of Nigeria.

They have called for urgent interventions to stabilise fuel prices and improve power supply to ease the hardship faced by citizens.
