Ajimobi Denies Role in Alleged Impeachment Plot, Labels Claims ‘Baseless’

Former Oyo State First Lady and ambassador-designate to Austria, Florence Ajimobi, has dismissed allegations linking her to an alleged plot to induce members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued through her media office, Ajimobi described the claims as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation” aimed at damaging her reputation and misleading the public.

Her reaction follows statements by some lawmakers, including Gbenga Oyekola and Deputy Speaker Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who denied any involvement in moves to destabilize the state government or receiving inducements from political actors.

Ajimobi specifically refuted claims that she hosted or participated in any meeting—either in Lagos or elsewhere—where discussions were held to influence the State Assembly against the governor.

“At no time did I convene, attend, or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group to discuss impeachment or destabilization of the Oyo State Government,” she stated.

She further described attempts to link her to the allegations as politically motivated propaganda designed to tarnish her image, particularly among the people of Oyo State.

Ajimobi also distanced herself from the internal affairs of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), noting that its activities in the state are of no concern to her. She argued that the allegations were a product of “mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda.”

Reaffirming her commitment to peace and democratic principles, the former First Lady maintained that she has never been involved in actions capable of undermining the stability of Oyo State.

She urged the public to disregard the reports, warning that the spread of false information could heighten political tension. The statement added that further legal steps may be taken if the claims are not retracted.

Ajimobi, it added, remains focused on her humanitarian engagements and contributions to society, insisting she would not be distracted by what she described as “unfounded and mischievous claims.”
