Ibarapa East 2026: Kuso Advocates Fair Primaries, Seeks Makinde’s Backing
A leading chairmanship aspirant in Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon Akeem Akintola, has responded to the recent position taken by some youth stakeholders advocating continuity in the current council leadership, calling on Governor Seyi Makinde to prioritise internal democracy ahead of the 2026 election.
Kuso noted that while the views expressed by the youth group reflect active civic participation, the emergence of any candidate should be determined through a transparent and credible primary election involving all party members.
He cautioned, in a measured tone, that any arrangement perceived as limiting the choices of party faithful could affect unity and confidence within the party.
“Democracy must be allowed to thrive within the party structure, and the voices of members must count,” he stated.
The aspirant emphasised the need for a level playing field, stressing that all interested candidates should be given equal opportunity to present their programmes and vision for Ibarapa East.
Kuso also advanced the zoning argument, explaining that fairness and balance within the local government require that leadership rotates among the zones. He pointed out that since the current chairman comes from a zone that has previously produced leaders, it would be equitable for his own zone to have the opportunity this time.
While making his position clear, Kuso maintained respect for the current administration and acknowledged the role of youths in shaping political discourse, urging all stakeholders to prioritise unity and development.
He expressed confidence in Governor Makinde’s commitment to fairness and inclusiveness, appealing to him to ensure that the process of selecting the party’s candidate reflects democratic principles.
Kuso further reaffirmed his readiness to uplift Ibarapa East, promising impactful governance that will cut across all sectors.
He also urged youths to remain peaceful and supportive of initiatives that will promote growth, noting that collective progress should remain the ultimate goal.
