Tinubu Picks Tegbe to Replace Adelabu as Power Minister
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Adebayo Adelabu’s successor, naming prominent technocrat and energy investor, Olatunbosun Tegbe, as the new Minister of Power, subject to Senate confirmation.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of former Power Minister, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election. Adelabu formally tendered his resignation after meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The nomination is seen as a strategic move by the Presidency to place a technocrat at the helm of the power ministry, following growing calls from industry stakeholders for a more competent and technically grounded replacement to tackle Nigeria’s persistent electricity crisis.
Tegbe, a respected investment expert with strong private sector credentials, is expected to bring a more industry-driven approach to the power sector as the administration intensifies efforts to improve electricity generation, transmission and distribution across the country.
His nomination has already drawn attention within policy and business circles, with observers noting that his private sector experience could shape a more reform-focused direction for the ministry at a time when Nigeria’s power sector remains under intense pressure.
